Elliott Clocks – Handmade FW Elliott of London English Mantel Carriage Clock – Green Onyx Glass Sides
A NEWÂ Fine Elliot of London, English made mechanical clock, mantel carriage clock with green onyx surround.
F.W.Elliott Ltd is a name synonymous with precise timekeeping and fine, quality clock making for over 100 years. The company was renowned for elegance, fine craftsmanship, fantastic timepieces and something which was to be handed down generation after generation.
The Elliott clocks history began in 1865 when James Jones Elliott of Cheapside in London was apprenticed to “Bateman” of 82 St. John Street, Smithfield, in the art of clock making. Unknown to him at the time, this apprenticeship began an origin of a world famous clock company founded in 1882 with a worldwide reputation for the manufacture of fine, quality Elliott of London clocks.
Throughout a complex history of many specialities, James Elliott’s son Frank Elliott joined his father in the company. Unfortunately James later died and in 1923, the company of F.W.Elliott Ltd was formed. Frank was also later joined by his three sons, Leonard, Horace and Ronald Elliott who had also carried out apprenticeships in the clock making trade.
The company traded successfully even throughout the war producing clocks for the armed forces and also test gear and apparatus for the Rolls Royce engines used in RAF planes. Horace Elliott later became the Chairman of the British Horological Institute.
The R.A.Braithwaite company name and the Elliott of London name is detailed on the champagne coloured dial with Black roman numeral numbers and delicate ornate Louis XV hands. This green onyx wind up mantelpiece clock is made from beautiful, green onyx with stunning natural markings and a full glass side and front so all parts of the mechanical clock can be viewed. The clock is a mechanical clock which requires winding once a week and lasts for 8 days.
