Masonic Orb | Freemason Orb | Masonic Ball
Sterling silver Masonic orb charm which opens out and unfolds into a 6 piece, equal size pyramid, interlocking cross.
Masonic balls are highly collectible and originated in the 19th Century as a discreet symbol of the Freemasons. They may be worn as pendants, charms or fobs and were particularly popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The cross includes detailed engravings when opened with symbols representing the moral and philosophical teachings of the Freemasons – the ball (when closed) resembles the “ballot ball” often used in Masonic voting.
When open, each of the 6 pyramids shapes are held by a hinge to the next piece which can then be folded back into the Freemason orb ball and secured by the 3 prong arms attached to the bolt ring top.
The Masonic opening orb charm may be given as a masonic gift or alternatively to mark a special Masonic occasion and can be worn by either men or women.
The Masonic orb charm is 15mm in size when closed as a ball and, when open, the cross measures 32 mm in height and 26 mm in width. The pendant charm weighs a total of 7.8g.
This charm is part of a wider range of Masonic jewellery – R.A.Braithwaite Jewellers, York has been a masonic jewellers for over 50 years.
