The signet ring is a timeless classic piece and has played an important part throughout history.
The term signet ring originates from the Latin ‘signum’ which means ‘sign’, as signet rings were often deep engraved (seal engraved) with a family crest and used as a seal. The head would be pressed into hot wax to leave an inprint on letters or legal documents.
Signet ring seals were historically known to be the most authentic way of signing a document, (even more so than a fingerprint!) with the rings being disposed of after the person passed.
Today however, signet rings are frequently passed down within a family line from member to member.
Signet rings today are also often engraved with the owners initials monogrammed together and often worn on the pinky finger as a signet ring pinky ring of the non-dominant hand however, they can be worn on any finger by men and women of all ages.
