Vesta Case Silver | Dated 1913

Vesta case silver – This vesta case is pre-owned and dated (via the hallmark) 1913, from the Edwardian era, therefore very collectible. It has a floral scroll pattern, a hinged cover, a striker base and a ring loop if needed for suspension from a chain.

A vesta case is a small box or protective case to keep a number of friction matches (“strike anywhere” matches) within – a case was needed to prevent the newly introduced friction matches from getting damp and also to protect the user from any danger incase of spontaneous ignition! Matches were used for smoking across the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Named after the Roman goddess of fire and earth “Vesta” – the cases became a very popular item to own by the early 20th Century.

The vesta case silver features a dedicated match striker surface at the bottom and a ring at the side so it can be suspended from a fob or albert chain or worn as a pendant if desired.
