This scroll top Krugerrand coin mount is a bezel style with jump ring fastening which makes it very easy to mount a Krugerrand coin. To mount the Krugerrand, the jump ring needs to be removed, the bezel placed around the coin and the jump ring reattached through the two loops to secure and tighten. The coin can easily be fitted into the mount however, if needed, we can do this for you on purchase.
The Krugerrand were introduced in 1967 to give the South African mint a much needed boost – they created something to appeal to collectors and investors and by the 1980’s, Krugerrands were very popular and made up around 90% of the international coin market. They are considered gold bullion and are made up of over one troy ounce of 22 carat Gold.
The purity is 91.67% of 22ct Gold with the rest made from copper (to make the coin harder and more scratch resistant) giving the coin an orange glow.
The name “krugerrand” was introduced as a combination of the surname of Paul Kruger – former President of the South African Republic – an important political and military personality at the time and also the currency of South Africa “The Rand“. Paul Kruger’s face is on one side of the coin, with a springbok on the other, native to some regions of Africa.
Krugerrands were, and still are, very popular – in fact, THE most popular coin to be sold globally with over 50 million ounces sold.
